The wire and paper sculptures of Polly Verity.
Polly creates a wireframe form in 3D using pure silver wire and pliers. This wireframe is then either left as it is or
it is covered in a taut paper skin. The paper is put on wet and sized with glue. When the fine paper dries,
it has hopefully dried tight. The paper then describes the form of the creature.
These creatures are mainly mythological or made-up in the mind of the artist. There are creatures and beasts
such as Pegasus (the winged horse), Melusina (who is a serpent creature below the waist), the Sphinx (lion with a
womans face). There is also the more made up creatures such as the Beetle-Winged Moondog and also the Sharp-Beaked
Hound of Zeus. This last creature incorporates a bird skull.
Polly Verity also creates other wireframe creatures and has worked on many other wire sculptures and also paper sculptures.
edinburgh's polly verity has a thing for paper. the artist fashions costumes and dresses from paper; folds intricate geometric sculptures from paper and sculpts hybrid creatures from paper with the help of wire armatures and a boundless imagination.
