Space Dance
Tetsuro Fukuhara aims to create an amicable body in the space. The performer works on an optimum amicable pose for each split second of time, taking into account the architectural space. The performing body also relates to other bodies, objects and sounds in this space. Fukahara bases his dance on Butoh, a minimal Japanese dance first pioneered in post-war Japan.
For the last twenty years Fukahara has headed a modern generation of Butoh entitled "New Butoh" which pushes back the boundaries of form and explores a rigorous anti-technique approach to the body in performance.
Polly attended a workshop with Tetsuro Fukuhara in 2001 and was invited to perform with him in a site specific group performance based on a slow walk and presented in Waverly Station, Edinburgh.
Fukuhara also created a performance entitled "Memory Chair" using the Spring Chair designed by Polly.
